Getting exercise into your everyday is easier said than done, especially if the sun isn’t shining outside. But so many Aussies are turning this around and embedded simple lifestyle changes that can make a big impact on overall health. Physical activity not only helps you look your best, it helps you feel your best too. Which is a good place to start when it comes to motivation. Try not to overwhelm yourself or set unrealistic expectations about changes to keep an active life. Here are a few hints and tips on how to get started.
Look the part. It may sound silly, but putting on your activewear during the day can help motivate you to jump on that treadmill or take the dog for a walk. Not only are you extremely comfortable, but it sets the tone for the day so you are more likely to move with ease and get the blood flowing.
Set time aside for workouts. If you adjust your approach and think about exercise as part of your job it places a greater emphasis on its importance. You could chat to your employer to see if you can come in earlier to work in order to leave 20-30 minutes earlier to hit the gym. Or get up earlier in the morning to do a workout before showering and getting ready for work. You’ll have to find what works best for you and your work situation.
Cleanse by cleaning. Eating wholesome healthy food starts at your fridge. So cleaning out any items that may cause temptation is an easy and quick way to adjust eating habits. Make sure you restock the fridge with plenty of fruit and vegetables, cut down on dairy (slowly), and reduce meat intake (meatless Monday, for example). An easy way to boost fruit and veg into your diet is to make smoothies. There are plenty of delicious recipes out there and so refreshing in the warmer months.
Get plenty of zzzzzzz’s. If you’re getting into your workouts than getting plenty of sleep won’t be an issue. Exercise is proven to help sleep and get you feeling refreshed and reenergized the next day.
It can be a daunting process to put yourself first by making your health and fitness a top priority, but once you’ve made changes (no matter how small) you and your body instant reaps the benefits which all add up to living the life you always wanted.
