How to Organise your Fridge to Eat Clean

If you’re planning to start a clean eating way of life, then start here. Or if you already stock your fridge with nothing but healthy, then you’ll love these tips on how to organise the items so you can always find them, making it easier to stick to your goals.

Get Organised. When the fridge is overflowing, food gets stuck in the back and goes unnoticed and unused.  And none of us want to waste perfectly good food or money. By simply arranging the contents neatly and methodically, it helps keep track of what you have and in eye-sight so it has a greater chance of being eaten. Try storing your food in clear containers (glass or plastic) and stack them on top of each other towards the front of the shelves.  That way, it’s always at your fingertips.

Snack Zone.  Create a dedicated shelf or area in the fridge that can be your go-to spot for healthy bite size munchables.  Things like cheese and crackers, fresh fruit (cut up), mixed nuts, or other homemade snacks.

Ready Veggies.  Want to feel full for longer? Snack of vegetables which are low in calories and loaded with fibre. But make sure they are ready to go – so after you bring them home from the store, wash them , cut them up and store them in containers.  Use veggies like carrots, cucumber, capsicum, celery, broccoli, cherry tomatoes. 

Fruit bowl.  While you have the cutting board out from the veggies, why not cut up some fruit and do the same to store them. Melons work best for this. Otherwise, use a bowl to keep fruit like apples, pears, oranges and more, that you can easily grab and go.

Cleanse your fridge.  Create more room in your fridge by removing any junk that could just tempt you.  Even if you buy soft drinks or chocolate for your partner or kids – stop right now. It will be much easier to stick to a clean eating lifestyle if you don’t have those items in front of you. And it will encourage those around to join you in being healthier too.

Quick drinks.  Another great alternative is to squeeze your own juice or make your own smoothies to have in the fridge.  Perfect for in-between meals or a boost to your breakfast.  Helps add essential fruit and veggie count to your day and can taste just as satisfying as commercial drinks.
