The cold weather is coming which means it’s hard to find the motivation to exercise. Winter means illness, the blues and the cold. Therefore, working out is even more important during this season and can be the answer to exactly what your body needs. Here’s why:
- Stay healthy in the cooler months.
Research shows that regular exercise strengthens the immune system so it can fight off bacterial and viral infections. This becomes particularly important in winter when colds and flu rear their ugly heads. Getting the blood pumping, immune cells circulate through your body more quickly helping them seek and destroy infections. But this boost only lasts for a few hours, so exercise needs to be regular for long-term effects.
- Beat the winter blues.
Whether it’s just a loss of motivation to get out of bed or something more serious like Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the gloom can hit anyone in the colder months. Working out each day can release feel-good chemicals and help fight depression. Plus, having home fitness equipment, like a treadmill or vibration machine, means you can break out of a mental slump as soon as you feel it hit.
- Winter weight gain.
When it gets cold, it’s so easy to reach for the warm, not very healthy, food that can cause winter weight gain. Although it can makes us feel good, the only way to make up for those added treats is to increase the amount of exercise. Try and balance your energy in and energy out.
If you follow these three rules this winter, the shredding of clothes in spring won’t be such a shock!
