The simple formula for eating healthy


The Atkins, Vegetarian, Paleo, Raw Food…. with so many dietary plans and formulas out there it can be confusing to know which one is right for you. But healthy eating doesn’t have to be complicated or so far from your normal routine that it’s challenging to stick to.

Following the rule of 5 will feed your body with all the right foods and keep your energy levels high. Here’s how it works;


Eat five meals a day

Just manage to squeeze in breakfast as you’re running out the door? Eating five reasonably sized meals a day will mean your body can continue to produce energy and leave you feeling satisfied throughout the entire day. So make time for breakfast, as well as morning tea, lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. The easiest way to stick to this routine is to plan ahead by using a meal planner for the week.



Five sources of nourishment:
Eating healthy is also about getting nutrients from different sources of food. There are five groups which should be eaten at every meal to power your body to be its best:

1. Protein – Aim to eat around 40-75 grams of lean protein with every meal. This could include chicken breast, tofu, dairy products, fish.

2. Good CarbsComplex carbs are rich in fibre and will make you feel full. This includes green vegetables, whole grains and foods made from them such as oatmeal, pasta, and whole-grain breads. Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn, and pumpkin.

3. Good Fats – We all know that avocadoes are good for us. But did you know it’s because they contain fats that help fuel us. Unsaturated and monounsaturated fats are high in omega-3 and omega-6 which are good for the heart, and loaded with antioxidants. So when it’s snack time, reach for nuts, seeds, avocado.

4. Fibre – We all need it to stay regular, but fibre also helps to lower cholesterol and keeps us feeling full. Whole grains are an obvious choice here, but also load up on fruit, veggies and nuts.

5. Water – Along with your meals, choose your drink wisely. Stay clear of those nasty sugary beverages and opt for water or freshly squeezes juice. It’s better for your body and will help with digestion.
