We know a lot of strong women; women who motivate us every day. They are all around us and the chances are that you’re one too. It takes kick-ass women to encourage future kick-ass women. For the 2nd year in a row we will be celebrating these strong women and all the women we know in supporting the National Breast Cancer Foundation with our ‘Walk a Kilometre in their Shoes’ fundraiser. If you stop by a CardioTech kiosk between the 5th and the 18th October we will donate a dollar to the foundation just for walking on one of our treadmills.
Women make a marked difference in this world, and it’s time we start tuning in. Being a strong woman isn’t about hoping life will happen it’s about making life happen. Here are some things that make a strong woman at any age and that we can all learn to incorporate into our lives.
Don’t give in to fear
Fearlessness isn’t easy, and it’s not the absence of fear but pushing through it and going on despite its presence. Don’t be afraid to try something and fail. A lot of people can be perfectionists. We like to make sure we will succeed before we try something, so we avoid the threat of failure and don’t reach for new things. You need to reverse this thinking and go after the things that scare us. Be bold and be fearless, so if you do fail, you’re able to move on.
Don’t crumble at rejection or criticism
A lot of people are vulnerable to all types of criticism, it’s important that they are able to withstand any obstacle because a strong woman is resilient. Backing down when the odds are against you is not an option!!
You might be one step away from one of the most challenging, yet rewarding experiences of your life. Keep powering through and stop worrying about what other people think. That’s why you’ll succeed and they won’t. Staying strong and resilient is essential to getting to where you want to go.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Being strong and independent doesn’t mean you have to exclusively rely on yourself!! It’s important to surround yourself with valuable people that lift you up. For every strong woman, there is a support system ready to listen and encourage her.
Don’t undersell yourself
First and foremost believe in yourself!! One characteristic that all strong women have in common is self-confidence. Self-assurance isn’t about focusing the attention on yourself, it means knowing your value. Plus, being sure of yourself gives you the strength to be supportive for others, and it also puts you in the right frame of mind to welcome constructive criticism so that you can continue to improve and grow.
Don’t compare yourself to others
Be your own inspiration!! There is no reason to compare yourself to others or that you cannot be just as good, if not better. You are YOU, no one else can be you and that’s what makes you unique and special. We all have different personalities and body types, interests and hobbies; don’t let other people make up your benchmark.
Don’t lose your passion
If you are passionate about your goals and excited about your pursuits, others around you will respond to that. Passion is like the energy that fuels our drive, it keeps us going when things seem tough or unchangeable. It’s easy for that passion to fade sometimes when the stresses of life get in the way. It’s important to focus on why we started and how the end result will make us feel. Don’t let your passion fade.
Don’t hold back
Stand up, be heard and make a difference!! Join us between the 5th and 18th of October and help us support strong women through taking part in our ‘Walk a Kilometre in their Shoes’ fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
