Best Ways to wash your workout wear

If you want to workout often, but only wear the gear you love, waiting to wash them in the next laundry load is not always practical.

So here’s a great tip to make sure you have clean and dry sports bra for your next session.

  • Bring it into the shower with you
  • Keep a small container of laundry detergent on the shelf that you can use to hand wash the garment.
  • Hang it over the shower rob or screen to dry.

Hand washing workout wear helps to maintain the integrity of the fabric, avoids colours running on other clothes, and allows them to last longer.  This works especially well if you’re on holidays and don’t have access to a washing machine.

If you tend to sweat a lot during training, your items may need some additional care. For example, hanging them out in the sun can help release odours.

Here are some other tips:

  • Soak in one part vinegar to four parts water for 30 minutes.  This helps to disinfect and loosen stains. Avoid bleach.
  • Wash clothes in the hottest water the garment can stand with half-part baking soda and half-part detergent to kill odor-causing bacteria and remove soap scum and stains.
  • If your clothes can take it, dry on the hottest setting of your dryer. As an alternative, hang wet garments outside in direct sunlight to kill any remaining bacteria.
